Shared 500ml bottle into a tall glass. 2022 release.

Black body, big tan head initially, light lacing. Aroma of chocolate and the barrel(s). Taste is full, rich, and strong, and follows the nose. Finish is smooth and boozy. Blackberries are MIA, which is a shame.

Pours a cloudy mahogany brown color with a sizzling, soapy tan head that is quick to evacuate the premises in seconds. The nose has tangy berry notes, chocolate, a bit of vanilla, and a smidge of booze from the barrels.

The taste is led by a combo pack of the tangy berry, chocolate, and vanilla flavors, with a bit more than a smidge of barrel heat. The flavors are really good, but a bit more barrel would really elevate this beer, IMHO.

The mouthfeel is lightly carbed, with significant gravitas, commensurate for an 11.4% ABV beer. I love the brewery, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to try this beer. A little more barrel and this approaches world class, IMHO. Really good stuff.

500 ml bottle, 2022 vintage. Served in a Rhinegeist snifter, the beer pours a very dark brown color with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like blackberries, chocolate, vanilla, and some whiskey. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's the addition of some oak, brandy, earthy and dark bready flavors. Barrel character is noticeable but not very strong. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's coating and has a moderate amount of soft carbonation. I liked this brew, wish the barrels had more of a kick here but it is good and tasty!

From the 1pt 9fl oz bottle in a snifter. This solid little brew pours a purple tinged
dark muddled blackish brown with a nice head of khaki foam that settles to a thick ring,
thin clumping layer, and sports some nice light lacing. Nose of dark berry, vinous brandy, bourbon
hints, vanilla, and dark bakers cocoa and earthy malts. Flavors surpass the nose which is oddly muted
for a brew this big. Bourbon, vanilla, vinous brandy, earthy malts, tobacco touches, black berry, raspberry,
oak, vanilla, spicy rye with warmth, and dark breaded malts. Nice mouth feel; medium body, medium
light carbonation that supplies some nice lift, and a medium dry finish.

Of note, some warmth also brings about a hint of soy.

Overall, love this brewery and am glad they are apart of the Cincy brew landscape.
Top notch!

Cheers

As if the blending of four of their strongest beers isn't enough, Rhinegeist Brewery looks to bourbon, brandy and rye whisky barrels; and even blackberries to give their mystic beer even more interest, curiosity and intrigue.

Just as lusciously dark and delicately inky as their original Mushhushshu, the blackberry edition aligns the glass with a firm cappuccino froth. Its robust fragrance is of coffee, cocoa, dark fruit is met with the robust tang of dark berry while wrapped in a molasses cocoon. But its flavors begin sweet with the caramel, vanilla, toffee and sorghum from both the barrel and the sweet barley sugars

But shortly into the session, the earthen char of dark-roast coffee, baker's chocolate and gentle smoldering embers rise to command the tastebuds. With hints of grilled dark berries, grape and blackcurrant, a plumy tone is set as the ale treads roasty and toasty on the middle palate. Its final frame is of oaken complexities with those bourbon, brandy and rye barrel spice as well as the gentle additions of vanilla and cocoa bean.

Full bodied, sweet and favorably laborious on the palate, the big and luscious ale lingers with roasty sweetness, spicy spirits warmth and a winey berry-like twang that breaks up the lingering sweetness to offer a semblance of drinkability and depth on the late palate. Defying styles, the ale strikes a chord that's somewhere between imperial stout, Belgian quad and Baltic porter.
