Hmmm, interesting nose and taste. Not sure if it is pineapple or what I am tasting. Not a great product but still drinkable. Could use lots of changes in the recipe.

Sabro is a hop variety, and not a fan of former Cincinnati Red Chris Sabo. I just thought I'd get that out of the way.
This is a collaboration between Rhinegeist of Cincinnati and Deschutes of Bend, Oregon. I wonder if collaborations are not fantastic by design since they're usually one-ofs. In this case, we've got a hazy NE IPA that occasionally references pineapple, sometimes recalls sour notes, but mostly conjures the 'ol plop plop fizz fizz of Alka-Seltzer.
Is it awful? No. Is it okay? Yes. Does it wear goggles? No.

Tropical character isn't usually what would be expected on the express route from Oregon to Ohio, but as Deschutes comes to Rhinegeist for a collaboration ale, the trip has pineapple all over it. hazy in construction, dipped in pineapple and leading with Sabro hops, this collaborative ale hits all the tropic buttons.
Light gold and leading with a strong straw pour, the reasonably hazy Sabro Express tops off with a foamy white cap with a scent that hinges on citrus, tropical fruit and a waft of dankness. Yet as its sweeter side coats the early palate with a thin film of malt, early impressions are gently sweet with honeysuckle, wafer and light agave.
As the ale turns toward mid-palate, the sweetness relaxes and the hop flavors about with a nearly tangy impression of lemon, fresh green herb and pineapple on the slightly under-ripened side of candied character. Trending bitter but balanced, the smooth and spicy hops develop an herbal counterpart of lemon balm, lemongrass, light spruce, verbena, green tea and sassafras with a followup of bruised lemon once more.
Medium bodied and trending lighter and drier, the collaboration hazy IPA finishes on the bitter side of bittersweet with a crisper edge of malty-dry. As a medium length undertow of hops outlast the malt, the ale is a sessionable, easy drinking and briskly bitter refresher of an IPA.
