Dark black with some haze and minimal white foam, cocoa and cinnamon aroma, backed by hints of cocoa nib, cinnamon, vanilla and roasted malt. The flavor follows, with notes of dark chocolate, crème brûlée and fresh churros.
Mexican Hot Chocolate Mushhushshu (pronounced moo-shoe-shoe) is a thoughtful blend of dark ales selected from several barrel types and vintages enriched with generous additions of chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon and chilis. The result is an exceptionally complex and chimerical concoction brimming with notes of rich chocolate, toasted vanilla, and subtle spice—a rare and majestic beast indeed. Mexican Hot Chocolate Mushhushshu is a very limited release, available in 500 ml bottles and on draft.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a relatively thin dark brown with a small amount of head. The nose is fantastic. Vanilla, cinnamon, chocolate, and loads of malts, Not really picking up any pepper on the nose.
The taste is super smooth. Cinnamon, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, and a touch of maple. Incredibly smooth and the ABV is totally hidden. I just wish the pepper was a bit more present.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and the aftertaste is chocolate and cinnamon.

As New Rift goes so does Mushhushshu. Rhinegeist relies on the success of the bourbon distiller and their empty barrels to put their dark ale blend into for a long and patient slumber. This time the mush is met with the flavors of Mexican hot chocolate for extra intensity, complexity and intrigue.
Part Belgian dark ale, part stout and part barleywine, Mexican Hot Chocolate Mushhushshu pours with more of a stout appearance than anything. A sweet and sultry scent of coffee, cocoa, caramel, cinnamon, cream and bourbon swoon the nose in highly complex fashion. Sweet with toffee, molasses and caramel, a soothing maltiness of honey and vanilla coat the palate with grain sugars while the robust flavors of dark chocolate, espresso, dark fruit and smoky char meet the moment to create a base balance of decadence. Finishing with a warming taste of bourbon, cinnamon and mild chili peppers give a final bite to keep the session valid, drinkable and balanced.
Full bodied, plump with malt and lingering with nearly port-like proportions, the session is a slow sipping one clearly meant for sharing.
