This is an exceptional beer that you even have to seek out in Bremen, especially if you want it on draught. It so happened we found a pub on the waterfront that served it, with a nice view of the becks brewery over the river.

It looks like it is wrongly classified on here - it is an unfiltered lager for certain.

Buttery aroma; sweetish taste with lemon and pepper. Very slight bitterness with grainy, woody undertones. An absolute gem. Becks takes on a new identity when consumed in Bremen. They must save the best stuff for the locals.

Served in a Haake Beck Mug. I got the beer and the mug as part of a wedding present. Pours a cloudy, almost matte pale yellow with a thick soapy head that clings to the edges of the glass as it fades then disappears.

Aroma is as expected of a lager, with the addition of yeast and banana. Taste is smooth and mild a little yeast, a little hops, a tiny bit of malt and some banana flavor. Refreshing, if a bit over carbonated. Would drink again on a hot day.

Best by date 05/2009.

Half litre serving. Two finger head. Very pale and very cloudy, haven't seen too many beers that look like this. Nice hoppy aroma with north german freshness. Tasted mangos, pears and apples, slightly bitter finish. Reminded me of an English pale ale. A beer to seek out when in the Bremen area, went down very well.

This is a very hard to find beer that some German friends brought me back when they recently returned from Germany. 12oz brown bottle with a very stylish label. This one still has yeast in the bottle and has the reminder to do the "bottle spin" to make sure to get it all into the glass. It pours a light yellow color with a thick head and leaves nice lacing on the glass. The color is very very odd as if you hold it upand move it around, it appears opaque - almost clear - but when you set it down again, it looks light yellow. The aroma is a little wheaty with some malts in the back. The flavor is pretty smooth and a little more bitter than expected, but still very good. The malts are apparent in the taste as well. There are some fruits and hops in the flavor, but I cannot pin point the type of fruit. This is a good drink and I highly recommend it if you're ever in/near Leer, Germany.
