Oostende, 18/7 2023. 50 cl bottle from from Söge Kiosk, Schüsselskorb, Bremen Mitte. Straight white label with the name of the beer in bold red letters.

Pours clear pale yellow with a mid-sized white head. A bit bubbly. Settles as thin patch of foam floating in the middle of the glass. No lacing.

Aroma is moderately intense with a sweet malty odor mingling with a slightly chemical soapy scent. Sweet pale malts, bread and cardboard. Detergent.

Medium strong carbonation. Thin, watery, lively and lightly tingling texture.

Flavor is moderately intense with a medium strong sweetness followed by a moderately strong and watery bitterness. Aftertaste is lightly bitter. Lingers for a bit. Finish is semi-dry.

Generic macro lager. But it gets points for being little bit bitter.

Stubby 0.33l bottle with a best by date of 11/2023. A beer I'd never buy or seek out but it was given to me to try. Pretty standard mass-produced Pils from Bremen with that signature crisp bite in the common versions. All very subdued and a bit harsh. Enjoyable as a beer but disappointing overall. While better than the namesake Beck's, this is a beer to consume in mass quantities while at a Werder Bremen match (they also brew the official beer of the football club).

Shared 330 ml bottle. ABV is 4.9%. Golden colour, moderate white head. Fairly strong aroma of grassy hops, some lemony notes too. Crisp pilsener flavour, light bodied, with a decent hoppy bitterness.

Pours a crystal clear golden color, with a fluffy, big head.

Smells of coppery straw, sweeter malts and wet hay.

Has a lively carbonation, together with a light bodied, refreshing tasting beer.

Tastes watery, with a bubbly carbonation, opening up the palate to herbal, dry hops. Has an overly sweet middle part with a watery, slightly leafy finish.

Not bad, regarding its recognizable hop profile, taming overly sweet malts for a longer while.

A classic example of the style with perfect balance of grainy malts & grassy hops.

500ml on-tap at Feldmann's Bierhaus, Bremen, Germany:
Clear, light amber with a thumb-sized, bubbly white head & average retention, some light lacing too.

A basic lager aroma with some skunk & light malts plus a few grassy hops & citrus but it was fairly forgettable.

Clean with some grassy hops & basic lager malts plus a faint bitterness. The beer was fairly bland & watery in areas with little to keep me interested.

Smooth but watery & bland. Crisp & clean tasting with faint bitterness& a dryness towards the end, a pretty weak beer.

A really poor beer by German standard & another reason avoid macro pale lagers whenever possible, this one was bland & unexciting with a basic lager taste & some off-putting skunky notes early one. Not enjoyable & one that I'd suggest you avoid, I know I will be in future.

What a disappointing beer. It's straw-colored with a soapy head, which is alright I suppose, and then everything else is mediocre, weak malts and hops that just end up tasting astringent.

I felt like it sat on my tongue, and for that reason among others it was hard to drink. Will not be ordering ever again.
