Four months into my stay in Brazil and it's been really hard to find good IPAs. I brought an overpriced Brewdog Hardcore as my contribution to a family tasting event and it got some attention for sure. But what really surprised us all (first time for buyer as well) was this little gem. Being a West Coast IPA guy I wasn't expecting much from a Brazilian IPA and especially one at 4.7% abv. For some ungodly reason way too many of the craft brewers here can't resist tossing in some weird fruit and/or spice into their IPAs making them taste really funky! So, yeah, a brew called Funk IPA had really low expectations.But such a tasty surprise! Big, well balanced hop presence. Just a straightforward mellow hop bomb (I know that sounds contradictory but maybe the low ABV just allowed the abundant hops to do their work). Just the right amount of big hops with a little sweetness for balance. Cant wait to try the black IPA and yes even the DIPA with passionfruit.
