This beer is black in a PBGC tulip glass, and rich dark chocolate when poured. A thin, creamy, black walnut head produces frothy lace with each sip and leaves a ring. While the beer is thick and dense, it leaves no film on the glass.
The aroma is similar to sweet, dark roasted malt with lots of chocolate. Lactose fills the middle, followed by black coffee.
Sweet, black coffee has strong notes of deep roasted malt. Black currants form punctuations, while the roast is quite impressive. Lactose is also easily distinguishable, followed by a mild, lingering finish similar to chocolate cake.
Light carbonation is no match for the dense body and slick, oily smooth texture.
This beer is probably best enjoyed while relaxing. I enjoyed it at the brewery with a group of very friendly folks. Back home it went well with my family, a Christmas movie and cookies, Like I said, relaxing, despite its name.
