I got a single bottle of this beer at a San Diego Wine and Beer Company.
This beer has a pristine amber color that matches the light mouthfeel really well. However, the flavors do not match well with the light body. There is very faint biscuit and caramel that gets overpowered by the piney hops that throws the flavor off, heading towards pale ale territory. Overall, this is a mediocre offering that doesn’t grasp the red ale category. A beer that does a much better job at weaving hops and malts together is the Alley Cat from Lost Coast Brewing Company. For a benchmark for red ales, I highly recommend Karl Strauss’ Red Trolley Ale! If you’re looking for a light amber done right, I recommend the Chronic Ale from Port Brewing Company. The only thing missing in that beer is the “Carlsbad” part of the Chronic Ale name.
On a side note, I really like the thick, durable, near-waterproof label used for these bottled beers. If it’s financially feasible, a lot of microbreweries should have those types of labels, whether thick or thin.

A - Very dark amber red, very clear, nice tan head slow to leave. Lots of cling.
S - Malty. Very malty. I get some sharper smells for bittering in there, but malt takes the cake.
T - Malt still wins over, but bittering is way more integral. Nice fat malt with spicy bittering at finish. Almost a little rye...
M - Medium body, good carb and balance.
D - Fun beer to try.
