How this won anything at any beer competition which they are so proud of that they've managed to watermark that into the label is absolutely beyond me. This beer sucks.

Bottle of unknown age into a tulip glass. Pours a light golden yellow with 1.5 fingers of white variable density head that never fully dissipates and leaves a little sporadic lacing. Nose is pleasant, heavy citrus. Taste like the nose is heavy on citrus with some earthy and grassy notes. Mouthfeel is good, smooth, carbonation a little low, and the finish dry and quite astringent. It's a solid IPA, I'd like to try it again and know the age since it was good enough to win GABF gold.

Thanks to a GABF gold with this beer in the coveted IPA category, BNS has gained some notoriety amongst the swath of battling smaller breweries in San Diego. Let's dive in.

An aggressive pour yields a clear sparkling gold body that forms a large rocky head that has very good retention and leaves copious amounts of clumpy lacing on the glass.

Hmmm, a distinct doughy note is over-aching but the hops claim some ground with floral, grassiness and citrus pith.

The malt presence quickly gets out of the way and leaves tons of grapefruit rind in it's wake. There are nuances of dried grasses and residual pine but overall this is a citrus pith centered beer. It is rather bitter in the finish enhanced with the pleasant citrus flavor.

There is no hint of graininess, very easy going down but as the beer warms it borders on too watery. An inkling of alcohol and good bitterness that lifts from the pallet.

This beer tells me that the GABF judges grade to the definition of the beer. They value appropriate bitterness and the clean nature of this beer, rather than overwhelming hops or new age juice bombs that lack bitter push back. This is not the beer that everyone is going to geek out over but I'm glad to have tried it.

A - Fairly clear gold. Lots of huge near whit to white head. Lots of cling.

S - Light sweet core, hops are evident.

T - Medium malt meshing with pretty big hops.

M - Medium body, good carbonation, good balance, leans to the hops.

D - Very sessionable.
