Green Beacon, what is there not to love about Green Beacon - a place that has conjured the "cool factor" for micro-breweries in Brisbane. I remember going there just after it opened back in 2013 thinking "It's just a bunch of beer vats with a bar front" - how wrong I turned out to be... but that was the brash young 33 year old me, what does the me of today think (all wizened and stuff)?
V: It is really just a bunch of beer vats with a bar front, but it's in a nice old school part of town called Teneriffe - not far from the 19th century architecture of the wool shed buildings. The location is also pretty quiet, pretty yuppie too (if indeed there is still such a thing) with men & women in yoga pants and sports tops listening to iPods strapped to their arms whilst jogging as far as the eye can see - so there is enough for everyone to gawk at. 7/10.
Q: The quality of the beers is fantastic - IMO Green Beacon brew some of the tastiest beers in Australia - so no one is left for want with their top-notch brews. 9/10.
S: Service is decent, up there with the best, these guys brew their own beers so they know them well. Not really much else to say on the matter. 8/10.
R: The range is decent with a core range of: an American Pale Ale, a Kolsch, an Amber Ale, a Porter, an American Wheat Beer, and an American IPA. It's a good range, all the brews are tasty, and they have a seasonal for every season, but I do remember them brewing a Hefeweizen that was (and still would be if they kept making it) my favourite Aussie Weizen - alas they don't seem to brew it now. 9/10.
F: The food looks awesome - typical Aussie brasserie food - though I've only ever had the baby olives, they were great though. One thing to note is that Green Beacon supports local Queensland farmers by using their produce in the kitchen - their seafood is fresh from local suppliers, kudos to Green Beacon! 8/10.
VFM: All the beers are priced at a standard $10 per pint, with Mon and Tue having a cheap $7 per pint on during happy hour (after 5pm). So the pricing is alright - though being a micro-brewery it could be cheaper (see Brewhouse in South Brisbane for a cheaper pint).
