A: This lil guy looks fantastic; nearing perfect. The color is a captivating burnt gold with a fair amount of haze which makes it look hearty and quite appetizing. It just looks ducking stellar. The head retention is dangerously close to top notch and the lacing is downright sexy. My one and only qualm here is the size of the bubbles within the head. If there were anything that could possibly give this ale a better appearance, it would be a slightly fluffier head.

S: Mmm. So obvious. These are New Zealand hops, aren't they? You kiwis are certainly proud of your hops. With good reason, too! The nose carries a beautiful bouquet of tropical hop stank while remaining refreshing. Not too hoppy, not too sweet. I like it. Traditionally speaking, it's a little off of its style, but we'll let that slide.

T: Kind of a flat taste in light of the show that the nose put on. Solid foundation of Pale Ale flavors, but the tropical fruit taste never really makes an appearance. There's a crisp, dry finish that I quite enjoy. All in all, it just tastes good. Pretty good, actually. Thumbs up.

M: A little bit waxy... Quite smooth... Medium carbonation... Light body... Very drinkable. 3.5/5

O: Really good beer, y'all. Definitely a repeat buy. I think I'll wait for the spring, though.

Pours amber with a large head.
Nose shows soft floral and grassy hops and a bit of biscuity malt.
Flavours include biscuity and bready malt alongside some more of the floral and grassy hops.

bottle poured into half pint

L - golden, slightly cloudy, thin white head

S - tropical fruits (lychee, guava), sweet malts, overall very subtle

T - sweet, honey flavours, grassy malt, mild, sour bitterness, acidic finish. Reasonably well balanced, but nothing flashy

F - medium to full bodied for style, moderate carbonation

O - good session pale, nothing outstanding - certainly wouldn't consider this a top range beer. Taste is reasonable without being exciting.

A - Pours a copper, amber colour with frothy slightly offwhite colour

S - Quite hoppy with tropical fruits, some burnt orange, grapefruit with light sweet maltiness

T - A dry hoppy but slightly grainy, grapefruit, some bitter lemon almost tart like but the hoppiness is not as prominent as I expected.

M - Light bodied, a little watery with medium carbonation

O - Just an average beer with a dry bitter finish. There are alot better pale ales out here

Bottle: standard brown 330mL bottle with a decent craft label. A good package for a small operation. Bought from Leura Cellars.

Appearance: a solid amber colour with stacks of carbonation visible. A one-finger head hangs about for quite a long time and slowly drops to a rocky, off-white half-finger. Good lacing too - looks good.

Aroma: pretty similar to FlaxenFeather, but with more emphasis on the tropical and stone fruits and less on the floral. In this case, the focus is well worth it - a lovely, refreshing aroma.

Taste: the flavours are a bit more muted in the mouth, but still follows the aroma with tropical and stone fruits.

Aftertaste: some tart bitterness comes through on the finish, which is quite dry.

Mouth feel: a bit too light in body - it could have used a bit more punch instead of being so quickly downable. Carbonation is pretty good though - mid-spritzy.

Overall: definitely the best Parrotdog brew of the four I have had: FlaxenFeather, DeadCanary, BitterBitch and BloodHound. The other three are all pretty much the same beer, with differing degrees of that awkward bitterness. Not great, but at least this one is a decent pale ale, and actually worth the price. I'll take a 6-pack every now and then.
