another rather impressive ipa from these guys, seems like a style they have in the bag. this is a hazy one done with strata vic secret, and cascade, and its really aromatic and flavorful. big hints of ripe cantaloupe, muddled lemongrass, and a piney or even wintergreen sort of botanical thing, as bold in the taste as it is in the nose, some peachy stonefruit and sweet orange as well, good complexity in the different hop varietals coming together, unique mix. the malt is a little fuller than it needs to be, and i find myself wondering if this hop profile doesnt deserve and demand a clearer, more refined, west coast type look and texture, even if the bitterness is kept low like it is here. its not untidy in the ferment or anything, its just a bit starchy and weighty on the grain side, which to me detracts a little from drinkability and from the hops, which are still front and center, and nicely showcased, but are dragged down just slightly by the maltiness. it has plenty of carbonation, a drier finish, and mellow bitterness late, it gets more dynamic as it warms, and i walk away impressed with the hop complexion here, and pretty stoked on narrows overall. a couple of awesome hazy ipa types and a gorgeous view from their taproom, no complaints!
