Poured from 16oz can into Spiegelau Stout Glass. No date.
L: Dark brown, three finger tan head has very good retention.
S: Roasted coffee, rich chocolate, faint lactose and oaty note.
T: Nice roasted coffee note, not as much chocolate as I would like. A light oat presence and too much lactose.
F: Light, crisp, lingering coffee.
O: Not bad but underwhelmed.

March 10th, 2015 - Benchmark Brewing's Oatmeal Stout is a solid version of the sweeter style, beginning with its malty aroma, rich with the herbal sugars of Coca-cola or even sassafras. But the flavor is quite dry, and the palate smooth. Like a mild but bitter chocolate, the flavor is somewhat light and requires aggressive sipping to register, but its present.

Near black and opaque with a modest off-white foam and a little lacing in the pint shaker. Inviting grainy aroma.
Big dark malty taste with that pleasant watery body of the lower-alcohol Stout. The aftertaste is malty with a sweet hint, followed by a bitterish taste of burnt barley and maybe some bittering hops.
This has the smooth oatmeal mouthfeel. A very decent but strongly flavored dark brew. On tap at Toma Sol in Hillcrest.
