This is my second Catawba Island brew, and it is a tough style. These can be kind of hard to drink.

It pours reddish brown with very little fizz, The aroma is malty and finishing hops - appropriate. The taste is sweet and bitter at the same time. Similar to others of the style but a little easier drinking.

Recommended. A decent take on the style.

I tried this scottish ale beer at the Casual Pint in Toledo, Ohio. It poured a slightly hazy dark amber with white head that did leave some lacing. The scent had hints of malt. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with a sweet malt base from start to finish. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it was a decent beer.

Pretty standard but well crafted and drinks fairly easy. Malty and a touch smoky. Wish there where more peat in this. Finishes quite dry.

12 ounce can, no dating that I noticed on the can or label. Label says 7% ABV. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a reddish/brown color with almost an inch light tan head that stuck around for a while. Decent amount of lacing. The brew smells like caramel, toasted malt, candied orange and some nuttiness. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also the addition of some earthy/herbal and brown sugar flavors. Nice balance between the sweet and earthy flavors here. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit slick and smooth with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought it was an enjoyable Scottish Ale, glad I got to try this one! Worth picking up if you haven't tried it before.

Overall, I liked this beer. It was like having a coke with the added benefit of an ABV. There is very little of a scent when opened, just a slight, sweety, caramel flavor. And that is what the taste is like. It is like, like I said, having a coke with the added benefit of an ABV. The head is very minimal; if any. It fizzes away quickly, indicating very minimal carbonation. It is smooth to taste and it has a lingering aftertaste - the caramel. I drank some while having hot wings & fries and I enjoyed the combination. I am also glad I got to try this beer and hope to have some more in the future. I certainly recommend at least trying it if you can find it.

From the 12 oz can in a snifter. This new to us brew pours a
medium dark red tinged brown mahogany with a decent head of
off white foam that settles to a thin ring and shows sparse
lacing. Nose of brown sugars and subtle grains with a touch of
orchard fruit. Flavors nail the style with light brown sugars, moderate
toasted notes, subtle peach, sweet caramel. and nicely balanced
herbal hops on the rear. Nice mouth mouth feel; medium body,
medium light carbonation, smooth, and a refreshingly balanced
moderately malty finish.

Overall, a SOLID brew and one I would like to try again.
Improves with warmth. Nice.

Cheers

A good Scotch ale. The malts were very prevalent, and brought out a very nice flavor. Had it on draft, and it was poured very nicely. Wish it was bottled or canned and distributed.

I'm not typically a scotch ale fan but the oaky/whiskey tones in this beer are very subtle, not overbearing. Very smooth enjoyable beer.
