This beer has been brewed by the masterbrewers of La Chouffe, when I poured it into my glass it really looked like the original, (except for the yeast flakes). But very soon I found it to be less good. A slight oxdation smell and unpleasant smell with some caramel notes.
Taste was better, slight bitterness and very drinkable, the body was a bit too thin. Fresh and fruity with a citric touch. There is not much complexity in this beer and although it looks like a La Chouffe, it does not come close....

Purchased this as a gift pack, 6*33cl with glass.
No best before on the bottle, unless it is 6-6-6. It is listed as retired, but the label says it is brewed for Brouwketel BV. According their website it is still available(?).
The review:
A: Golden colour, rocky and steady head, good lacing and fully lasting.
S: Citrusfruits, candy-sugar, malty and a touch of spice
T: Hopbitterness till aftertaste, initial taste light sweet/light bitter
Mouthfeel: Lively carbonation, bit dry, astrigent. As said, hopbitter, spicy aftertaste, short.
D: I will enjoy the other five, but stil they can't beat La/Mc Chouffe.

enjoyed this very much in belgium, recently had the opportunity to come in contact with some fresh bottles (best by end of 2006). finally i have the chance to sit, sip, and appreciate.
11.2 oz bottle.
pours a bud yellow with lots of thin, fizzy streams moving like highway traffic towards the eggshell head. quickly dissolves around the top corner, leaving a puffy cloud and crunchy lacing. for an 8.5% beer, this looks so light and mouthwateringly refreshing.
nose contains pronounced bready yeast and candi sugar, which bring out the sensation of enjoying a fresh slice of lemon merengue pie. a little bit of that buttery tripel character, but not enough to be off-putting. nothing off here.. clean and smooth.
belgian spring of hops slide comfortably into a diacetyl-infused pale ale crispness. slight heat in the throat.. but that was expected somewhere at some point due to the abv. this is clearly chouffe's quality alternative to beers like duvel and leffe. it might not be the most adventurous beer, but it does what it does with style and craftsmanship. one of its best characteristics is the remarkable masking of its alcohol content. this could be a dangerous beer.. perhaps suggesting the devil on the bottle.
speaking of which, one of the coolest labels ever. chouffe dressed up as a devil? this boosts the appearance as it makes this beer very appealing to me, whether or not this works for you.

This beer has an aroma of lightly fruity candy. There is a hint of characteristic Belgian astringency in the taste, this matches well with a nice fruitiness. A blond beer with a bit of haze to it. Quite a refreshing beer despite its high alcohol content.

A very decent little brew, golden colour, big fluffy white head, slightly floral aroma, slight sweet start and bitter finish, alcohol shines through a tiny bit right at the end, but generally very nice.
