Solid black with a nice amount of dark brown foam. Pretty good retention even with a moderate pour from the crowler.
Smells very roasty/charred, and like bitter chocolate.
Tastes the same. Chocolate flavor is fairly bitter. Especially when colder. A lot of malt in here. A bunch of roasted flavor with some black coffee grounds in the background.
Body is fairly heavy. It kind of straddles the line between American and Imeprial. Finish is a tad dry. Very nice beer overall.

22 ounce wax capped bottle (labeled as Bison Imperial Stout, 8.5% ABV), 2015 vintage. No dating on the bottle, but I believe this was bottled a couple months ago. Served in a DFH snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a half inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. The brew smells like dark fruit, coffee, roasted malt and bittersweet chocolate. I think the taste is similar to the aroma, with the dark fruit and roasty coffee bitter flavors being the strongest. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit slick with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought it was an enjoyable brew, I've liked what I've tried from Homestead so far and I think this one is worth trying, too. $9.99 a bomber.

Though I'm new to stouts, this beer was good but not overly impressive. I did enjoy the creamy finish.
