Hmm . . . Honestly I'm quite impressed. I thought this could go either way. I've never had a bad beer from Homestead but I also have this subconscious belief that everybody else besides me has access to good barrel aged offerings. Well, Bison is a terrific BA Stout ! Very cool looking bottle with wax seal. Poured into a Belgian style glass. Appearance is oily and viscous with the usual khaki head. Aromas are very pleasant with chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, vanilla and of course bourbon up front. I remember being rather intimidated by these sorta beers but now I embrace them. Taste follows exactly what the nose suggests. Very tasty and one of the things that is most impressive is this the aromas and flavors are authentic. I guess I'm trying to say is this beer is legit. Feel is maybe a tad more carbonated than most in the style that have spent time in barrels but it really just make the beer feel more viscous and chewy. Overall a really good barrel offering . . . We'll done Homestead!

22 ounce wax capped bottle, 2016 vintage from the recent release a couple weeks ago. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. The brew smells like bourbon, vanilla, roasted malt, and dark fruit. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also the addition of some dark chocolate, oak, caramel and coffee flavors. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's slick and smooth with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought it was an enjoyable barrel aged brew. Not too light and not too heavy with the barrel, I liked it. Certainly worth picking up if you come across a bottle. $13.99 a bomber.
