From the 22 oz bottle in a snifter. This mighty fine brew pours a
rugged coal black with a very nice head of dark brown foam that
settles to a thick big bubbled ring, thin dusty layer, and shows
nice sudsy lacing. Nose of bourbon, oak, vanilla, dark cocoa,
mild coffee, booze, and touches of anise and char. Flavors
exceed the nose with a dark cocoa and char swimming in
bourbon notes of dark brown sugars and vanilla with woodsy
oak. Notes of leather and tobacco show with warmth as does
some dark fruit and brewers licorice. Very nice mouth feel; full
body, smooth, rich, moderately slick, coating, and warming
with light carbonation and a warm char, bourbon, and cocoa
note on the finish that is moderately dry.
A FANTASTIC brew and one that deserves to be entered
into contests----take note, this is a mighty fine imperial.
Bought from BC Bottle Lodge, a nice new stopping point
when I get off of work!
Cheers!
2020 version is a hair more raw on bourbon but still excellent
which was bought while hanging out with Bluejacket74 in

Pours pitch black, impervious to light. Like motor oil. Nice mocha head, 2 fingers, sticks around for a while, big chocolate aromas dominate, brown sugar, blackstrap molasses, bourbon barrel follow suit. Big chocolate flavor, not overly sweet considering the abv, followed by cocoa powder, brown sugar, and a nice bitter espresso finish that lingers. Full bodied, very rich. Overall an excellent example of the style.
