Enjoyed a decent sample approx 6 oz. at a Backyard Beer Festival held by a friend of mine. Straight from the brewery via bomber size bottle. Was also fortunate to take one of these home with me instead of driving up to Whitby. Thanks Sara and Dash!
Appearance - Bright light golden color with a mountain of white head, lots of bubbles, and a slightly hazy look in the glass.
Smell - Wow! Massive tropical fruit, mango, lychee, strawberry, tangerine. The hint of strawberry reminded me of Stone IPA. Very inviting.
Taste - Almost just like the nose. Mango, nectarine and lychee are biggest flavors here, the strawberry orange and maybe some grapefruit hurtle in right afterwards. Malt backbone is there but quiet. Bitterness is there, but the sweetness from the tropical fruit shines.
Mouthfeel - Well carbonated, no hints of alcohol and the body is much lighter than you;'d expect froma 8% ABV IPA. Definitely classified right since it doesn't have that sticky (but delicious) maltiness that many DIPA's do.
Overall - Winner for best beer at the event in my mind, I actually can't wait for this to get better distribution. In my eyes right up there with some of the best Ontario has to offer in terms of IPA's with Great Lakes Brewing and probably ahead of well-established players like Nickel Brook. Awesome stuff.
