Enjoyed a decent sample approx 6 oz. at a Backyard Beer Festival held by a friend of mine. Poured from a number of bomber sized bottles.

Appearance - Dark brown colored beer and clear, that is just a dark enough shade than the the lovely fluffy head comes out tan instead of white. Clear enough, it straddles the line in apperance between dark ale and stout.

Smell - Lots of nuts, some molasses blended in with chocolate and I got a hint of (chiles?) something with spicy / peppery notes.

Taste - Quite the same as the nose, nuts, a pinch of molasses, backed by some steady leafy hops that gives its a robust bitterness that is very pleasant. A fainter taste of chiles than on the nose, but some cherries come to the forefront as it warms. An interesting compilation of flavors for sure.

Mouthfeel - Smooth, but not slick, with a reasonably full body and nicely carbonated to boot.

Overall - A winner from 5 paddles, this was one of the best beers I enjoyed at the Backyard Beer Fest, an interesting stout / porter /dark ale that falls somewhere within the realm of the three. I'm excited to see if these guys can get some distribution in the LCBO instead of a long drive out to Whitby. Worth a shot especially if you're on the eastern side of the GTA.

Got this one from Hopsolutely this past summer. Really awesome of you guys to collect all this good stuff for me. Cheers!

Labeled as a dark ale and listed here as a stout. I'd categorize it as a porter.

APPEARANCE: A very dark brown pour yields a 2 ½ finger, looser looking, foamy tan head with decent retention. Bistre brown body, almost black, with higher levels of carbonation for the style. Heady slowly fades to a splotchy wisp and ring. Lots of carbonation everywhere on this one. A slight wisp remains and leaves some lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Black malts, chocolate notes, nuts and a slightly smoky quality as well. Medium strength and rather porter-like.

TASTE: Black malts, nuts and chocolate up front. Medium but lingering finish of more nuts, cocoa powder, chocolate, smoky notes, toffee sweetness and some nice chocolate bitterness as well. Flavorful and enjoyable for sure.

PALATE: Medium body with slightly higher levels of carbonation. Creamy on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes slightly dry. Creamy on the palate but a touch too much carbonation here.

OVERALL: Quite a good brew here. This is billed as a dark ale and listed as an American stout here, but it could have just as easily been called a porter, as there are lots of porter qualities in this one for sure. A touch too much carbonation here makes it a bit bubbly in the look and feel, but that’s a minor issue. A solid beer I’m happy to have tried. Would gladly drink this again if possible. Thanks again Hopsolutely! Recommended.

Enjoyed at the brewery both on tap and by bottle. Above average mouthfeel. Bold flavour, no head. Very drinkable fresh beer. Nugget, centennial, and a melange of hops. 50 plus IBU. A hoppy stout, but still a good malt bill and complexity.A bit above average mouthfeel.
