Not out of production; back for 2017! 6.3% ABV, and Marzen, not Helles.
No date on the can. Sam Adams glass.
A: pours a bright, clear, copper with one finger of bubbly head that retains pretty well. Carbonation is blasting away. A little spottiness, but no lacing to speak of.
S: immediately there is a sweet, sugary, and slightly fruity aroma. Plum-like; perhaps dates or raisins. Lager yeast smell is present but faint in the background.
T: malty, toasted arrival; not nearly as sweet as the smell would suggest. Full bready mid-palate with a hoppy earthiness beginning to creep in. Finishes surprisingly dry, with a slightly spicy, toasted and somewhat medicinal hop twinge. It reminds me a little of toasted pumpernickel on the finish! Medicinal hop note lingers.
M: lighter end of medium. Some slickness.
O: this is far from my favorite Marzen, but takes the style in a different and somewhat unexpected direction. The darkness and richness of the malt contrast the lightness of the body and texture. Also, the sweetness on the nose is totally contrary to the toasted spiciness on the palate. Really interesting beer, but not one I will be buying again. Much respect for a little brewer executing a lager this well.

750 ml bottle, bottled 10/06/14. Served in a mug, the beer pours an orange/copper color with about an inch light tan head that didn't stick around very long. There's a small amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like toasted and grainy/bready malt, nuts, and some light fruit and spicy hops. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some sweet malt and herbal/grassiness noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit coating and has moderate carbonation. Overall I thought this was an enjoyable brew, a good selection for a cooler November day. $5.99 a bottle.
