Let me state first and foremost that I was very excited to check this place out. They have been open for ~6 months before my schedule allowed for me to pay them a visit. Despite my eager anticipation and hopeful wishes that this place does good...I cant help but provide an honest opinion of my experience.
Good luck trying to understand their hours of operation. A google search reveals this place has a website but it does not provide any useful information regarding their hours or menu. However, it will link you to facebook that they update with some regularity. If you are lucky, you might find out what is or was on tap in the past week or what their hours were for previous days. Your best bet is to call if you want to verify them being open. Ive never had that difficult a time finding a business hours before.
Their menu while creative, fresh and exciting is difficult to navigate prior to a visit. They utilize an additional website called openmenu. Upon browsing that site, it does not display correctly on a mobile device. The same menu item gets listed multiple times and does not display the other options available. I know this isnt directly Zucks fault but please, if you read this review, can you provide an easier, more centric and concise resource for your information instead of spreading it partially across 3 or 4 different online resources?
The establishment itself is very quaint. It is small, clean and rustic almost having a family feel to it but having my family with me provided the notion that this is really not a family establishment. The only seating available were high stools that made me very nervous/anxious about having my child sit on.
Service was prompt and attentive. I dont have any complaints about that. The selection seemed fair considering how small the establishment is. We easily navigated the menu, asked questions and were happy finding things that sounded very tasty. The tasting experience itself though was an absolute nightmare.
My wife ordered meatloaf and mac. The mac and cheese was not good. It was similar to boxed mac and cheese that was reheated except it utilized penne pasta. The meatloaf was a joke. It was served like it came fresh from a muffin pan. It too was nearly flavorless and severely dried out. It crumbled to pieces when attempting to cut it. And it too seemed like it was cooked previously and then just overly reheated in the oven, completely drying it out. So dry it was nearly inetible. Was it suppose to be served with a gravy that they forgot? At $16 I found this offensive.
My meal was slightly better. Shrimp and grits for $23? It contained 3 over-cooked rubbery shrimp over a bed of grits and gravy. Also, half a piece of candy bacon was a nice touch but rediculous for the price.
We got a plate of sage hummus. It was very tasty but sadly only included 5 pieces of 1-inch sqare flat bread bites. The bread was tasty with the hummus but drastically under-portioned to the point where it just looked sad. After 2 bites per person, we were left with 1 morsal of bread but enough hummus for a dozen more pieces of bread.
The first beer I had was a chocolate butterscotch porter. That was excellent so I tried a sampler. Only to find out it was $2.50 per 4oz pours and all 4 of the beers were hardly mediocre at best. A red ale, pale ale and brown all smelled and tasted the same...green and yeasty like they were hustled to the taplines prematurely.
If all that wasnt bad enough, our waitress showed up and hurried us along with our check. For 2 people to eat and only 1 of which was drinking beer, it cost $76. So sad to have an experience this bad. We have no interest in returning here anytime soon.
