On tap at Goldstein's Mortuary & Delicatessen
A: Pours golden yellow amber with a frothy off white head that settles to a light layer and laces nicely.
S: Big tropical and stone fruit, citrus fruit and blossoms, grassy, herbal, and piney notes, biscuity bready malt, and caramel sweetness.
T: Tropical and stone fruit, passion fruit, mango, apricot, peach, and a hint of guava, citrus, lemon, grapefruit, and tangerine, a little herbal spicy pine, biscuity slightly bready malt, and caramel sweetness.
M: Medium body, moderate carbonation
O: Citra bomb, but it stands out from a lot of the other Citra bombs. Really well done.

The beer pours out a medium hazy light golden color, with 1 finger of white head------------- the aromas are of sweet orange and Mellon, the aroma is not to complex but what is here smells delicious------------------ the flavors start out dry with a light malt backbone followed by orange and guava, the beer has a medium mouthfeel with a mild bitterness on the finish----------------- overall this beer was nice, it reminds me of one of those old school New England ipa's, right before things got super murky and juicy

16oz can, served in a snifter glass. Pours a clear light orange body, a bit of a yellow hue, two finger white head with good retention, rings upon rings of lacing. Smell is rich grapefruit that smells incredibly juicy, a bit of zest, a good caramel sweetness, light minerals. Clean aroma for sure; no graininess. Flavour is rich grapefruit; it's very juicy, in some ways this is what Toppling Goliath pseudoSue/King Sue used to deliver in their early days- that super juicy grapefruit from the citra. Fantastic. Moderate resinous bitterness on the finish. No cat piss. Moderate caramel presence without being overbearingly sweet or getting in the way of that juicy grapefruit. Excellent. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, crisp and a slight stickiness; lots of grapefruit juice continues to linger all the way through the finish. An overall excellent citra DIPA; the sheer juicy grapefruit character reminds me of what Toppling Goliath pseudoSue used to be like before being sent to the doldrums of contract brewing. No graininess, tons of hop character and resin, appropriate malt backbone. If this is the way the west coast IPA style is going, I'm fully on board.

This is an amusing counter-reaction. This softer, fruitier IPA without maltiness is being dinged for the very characteristics people tend to seek elsewhere. Ignore these claims. This is a great merger of traditional west coast clarity, crispness, bitterness, with the fruitiness and softness desired from NE IPAs. There's no haze so the hype machines will pass this by. And, it's a one off so the glowing review means almost nothing. But it's a stellar beer.

A: clear golden yellow thick white bubbles
S: grapefruit. Citrus zest. And I know it says citra but I'm getting a ton of mosaic hops on the nose.
T: wayyyy sweeter than lets on. Stone fruits and citrus pith dominate. It's got a fake sugar quality. Not the natural tropical notes you'd look for. Almost like mango/tangerine sugar mix. Grapefruit punch at the end.
F: slick and oily crisp finish.
O: not sure what to make of it. Not bad. But needs a lot of refining. It's sooo sweet but not in a good way. But has a lot of potential. Would like to see some balance.

Appearance - Pours relatively clear and golden yellow in color. White, near finger width head with sub-par retention, resulting in a thin, broken layer of suds and a thin ring of suds around the edge of the glass. Fair lacing, mostly made of spotting and a small, broken line or two.
Smell - Huge notes of grapefruit zest with lesser mango and pineapple zing. Mild pine and apricot.
Taste - More mango than the nose leads on, as it dominates much of the flavor profile. Lesser citrus and pine. A touch of stonefruit pit nuttiness near the finish. Sweet mango finish with a faint trace of pith bitterness.
Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. Slick texture with a crisp, mostly dry finish.
Overall - A good DIPA, but frankly lacks any semblance of a malt backbone, so it's a bit unbalanced for my tastes, especially with all the mango. It's a one-off so far as I can tell, and I won't miss it too much once it's gone.
