Appearance - Pours extremely hazy and dirty golden orange in color with a white, quarter-finger head that fizzes way seconds after the pour, leaving a mostly barren surface and a razor thin ring of suds around the edge of the glass. No lacing.
Smell - Prominent notes of coconut and pineapple make up much of the aroma. Yeah, very strong coconut.
Taste - Follows the nose. Coconut hits hard and doesn't relent, while lesser notes of pineapple, orange and grapefruit do what they can to cut though the prominent coconut flavor. Grapefruit pith creeps into the finish, giving the aftertaste a good amount of bitterness, but the coconut holds firmly at the top and lingers for quite a bit of time.
Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. Slick texture makes this an easy drinker, even at 8.5%.
Overall - A decent brew, but the incredible dominance of the coconut is an odd fit for the rest of the flavor profile. It's certainly not something you'd expect out of a DIPA. If I'm being honest, I'll probably look to trade out my remaining three cans.
