19oz can, dated 08.28.2020, poured into a stemless wine glass.

The beer pours a deep jet black color, very thick and viscous with a finger or so of khaki head with no meaningful retention nor lacing. The aroma is mostly of sugar and cream, marshmallow sweetness, a bit of warm booze and soft chocolate which reads as milky and sweet. The flavors aren't much different, lots of vanilla marshmallow, sugary, a bit of lactose creaminess, rich milk chocolate, a bit of dryness brings out the almond but it's quite faint while the finish is cloyingly sweet and warm from the booze. The mouthfeel is a bit thinner, more carbonated and for how creamy and sugary the flavors are, it's very dry and the finish is a bit of a boozy mess.

Verdict: A swing and a miss for me. The creaminess of a milk stout there but the complimentary roasty qualities don't break through, there is a bit of a dry and toasted feeling with the almond but beyond that, this beer is all sugar.

Canned 08/28(?)/20

Appearance - Pours near black, with cola brown edging where light can penetrate. Tan, finger width head that fizzles away in about a minute's time, resulting in a near barren surface, and a thin ring of suds around the edge of the glass. No lacing, save a broken line or two and a handful of tiny spots that slide slowly back into the drink.

Smell - The aroma is an interesting mix of milk chocolate, vanilla, almond, slight booze and a touch of roast. Nothing really dominant; it's a balanced nose.

Taste - Follows the nose. Dessert-like sweetness balanced by a mix of lesser roast, nuttiness and light booze. Milk chocolate and vanilla upfront, then the earthiness of the almonds creep in. Cake batter. Almost an oaky quality in there too, perhaps from the almonds being toasted. Finish adds a hint of boozy astringency.

Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with low carbonation. Thick, velvety smoothness before a slightly dry finish. Drinks easy for 11.1%.

Overall - It's a really nice brew, mellow and balanced, but there's something lacking in the flavor that would make this truly special. Perhaps some decent roast character or hints of smoke would set this off? IDK. For the price ($12 / can) I will likely pass in the future.
