Poured a 12 oz. can into a pint glass. A half inch tan head rose and dissipated quickly over a dark brown muddy body. Lacing was non-existent after 5 minutes... a bit under carbonated, but the stickiness of the mouth feel, and oiliness of the brew made me feel the lack of abundant carbonation was more a result of a dense body of organic ingredients. The nose was coffee, malt, and bourbon. The taste was much the same but vanilla, sugar, and hops notes joined in to paint the fuller picture. The barrel aged bourbon presence is robust, as the 12% ABV would suggest. The coffee is strong, and good. I was actually feeling a caffeine rush at midnight, a peculiar feel at that time of day. I like the fact that fanciful ingredients to provide exotic taste twists seem absent here. This is a straightforward bourbon barrel aged stout, highly infused with quality coffee. The taste is quite delicious! I like this beer better than the score of its' parts will indicate. A classy brew, a keeper, from Griffin Claw Brewing Company.
