Picked up a four-pack of 16 ozers at the taproom at New Braunfels, TX, as well as having it on tap. No itemized receipt was given. Reviewed 9/5/18.
“Canned 8/21/18” on bottom of cans, difficult to read. Stored in the reefer at the taproom. Served 42 degrees in a hand washed and dried glass coffee mug.
Appearance – 4.
Body – Medium yellow, hazy and translucent.
Head – Average (Maximum 3 cm, controlled center pour), off-white, low density, average retention, diminishing to a six mm ring and complete layer
Lacing – Fair. Some wide partial rings of tiny to medium bubbles are formed, with the rings connected by a rare column.
First pour – Yellow, hazy.
Aroma – 3.5 – Initially very light and refreshing, more like key limes than regular limes.
Flavor – 4 – Begins with a neutral, neither sweet nor sour, vaguely citrusy taste. An ephemeral piquancy of lime appears on the backwash. A hint of malt appears. No alcohol, no diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 3 – Medium, watery, soft carbonation.
Impression and interpretation – 3.5 - Very mild and unassuming, particularly when comparing to more “limey” brews, like Shiner’s Sea Salt and Lime. I really enjoy citrusy IPAs and this, while not bad by any means, failed to reach its potential.
