Freed from the Cave from 5 Stones Brewing. Purchased on 20/5/21 from reefer at the brewery, $ 15.59 (including tax and discount)/4-pack of 16 oz cans ($0.244/oz). Stored at home at 42 degrees. Reviewed 21/5/21. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Marked “CANNED ON 12/30/20” on bottom of the can. Served at 55.4 degrees in a hand washed and dried glass coffee cup. Final temperature 57.9 degrees.
Appearance – 3.5.
First pour – Amber Brown (SRM 18), hazy.
Body – Deep Brown (SRM 30), opaque. When rear-lite, same.
Head – Large (Maximum five cm, aggressive center pour), brown sugar, medium density, average retention, diminishing to a six to eleven mm crown and a thin partial cap. Second pour produces a 1.1 cm high density head.
Lacing – Good. Wide bands of tiny to small bubbles, connected by columns of varying widths.
Aroma – 3 – Weak coffee, no hops, no malt, no yeast.
Flavor – 3.5 – Begins slightly bitter with a bit of chocolate malt, no hops, no yeast. Ends with coffee. No ethanol (7.8 % ABV, marked on container) taste or aroma. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium, more watery than creamy, soft but lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.5 Passable coffee stout, unexceptional.

Traditional American stout. Strong coffee aroma. Taste is of a low-acidity medium roast coffee. Mild smokiness with smooth, earthy sweetness.
