Picked up a four pack of pint cans. No date on can, but I know this release came out last November for Veterans day.
Pours a crystal clear copper in color with hints of gold when held up to the light. A finger thick frothy, white foam sits on top after the pour, eventually subsiding to a thin layer of lacing that coats the glass as you drink. The carbonation looks low with lots of tiny bubbles, my favorite kind.
Pungent fresh hops on the nose. Lots of tropical fruit and a bit of a floral soapiness. Maybe a hint of pine in there, too. Not much in the way of malts. I like.
Taste follows the nose well. Along with the fruitiness of the hops there is also some pine resin dankness and grapefruit rind. The hops are rising on top of a buttery, lightly toasted maltiness that provides some body and balance but mostly stays out of the way.
This is solidly medium bodied, drinks much thicker than it's ABV would imply. Ample chewiness with light, creamy carbonation. Not sure how they did it, but this is my favorite kind of carbonation profile. Drinks easy but does coat the tongue a bit. Probably wouldn't want to session these.
I continue to be impressed by five stones. I may even venture to say they are my favorite brewery in Texas at this point. Just fantastically solid offerings, I have yet to be disappointed. Probably won't be able to get this one again but I look forward to their release next year. Cheers!
