1L howler from Sherbrooke Liquor Store - good name for an imperialized English IPA, I gotta say.

This beer pours a hazy, medium apricot amber colour, with three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly beige head, which leaves very little in the way of mitochondrial lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.

It smells of gritty and grainy pale malt, muddled domestic citrus rind, a further bit of peach Schnapps fruitiness, some unwelcome earthy yeast, and more leafy, weedy, and perfumed floral noble hop bitters. The taste is crackery and grainy pale malt, a wee caramel sweetness, further toasted white bread notes, still hard to differentiate bland citrus peel, an extant and mildly phenolic yeastiness, and more weak herbal, leafy, and sauced-up floral verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly weak in its nearly clocked-out frothiness, the body an adequate middleweight, and so-so smooth, as that hovering alcohol seems intent on putting a kibosh on the frolicking here. It finishes off-dry, the boozy fruit, stunted malt, and herbaceous elements stumbling outside after last call.

Overall, it feels like I've seen this happen once or twice before - the attempt to ramp-up, ABV-wise, a style that doesn't call for it. Yeah, the American IPA enjoys the ability to get right wrecked, as such, but the nature of the British hops and lighter malt bill just can't stand up to the heat. Oh well, pish-posh, live and learn, eh?
