Clear gold-tan color. Light flux of small and medium sized bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass. Not much of a head; what there was dropped down to a thin skiff across the top in half a minute. No lacing.
Strong floral scent with some underlying light malt. Swirling the glass added a light bread-yeast scent and a touch of barnyard which quickly disappeared. The floral reasserted itself in seconds.
Strong floral flavor at the start which was quickly replaced by classic Pilsner bitters and malt. A light sweet flavor kicked in towards the end. The aftertaste was mostly bitters and florals.
Quickly turned into a fine creamy foam which grew to larger bubbles with some tongue tickling. The foamy texture gave it a heavier body than expected, up to a medium.
The strong florals were a nice addition, but don't fit into the reference standard. Call it a +1 and a -1 at the same time. Something in the bitters built up as an after-aftertaste over time that wasn't pleasant. However this is much better than most Canadian West Coast attempts at Pilsner. Most of our local Pilsners have a fishy or metallic flavor, or both. This is a previous BC gold medal winner.
