Opaque dark brown color; dark orange at the edges. Poured a very short head that completely disappeared in seconds. Too opaque to see the carbonation level. Left a few dots of lace.
Dark chocolate or coffee malt smell. Dry oatmeal breakfast cereal. Light yeast, making it smell a bit like an oat bread overall. Swirling the glass kicked up a mild barnyard for a few seconds, then back to the original smells.
Lightly sweet toasted malt blend. The oat shows up below the toasted malt. The coffee and chocolate flavors show up a little later and take over the flavor profile. Mild bitters, maybe a bit less than the 25 IBUs on the label. The aftertaste is a slightly sharper bitter for a few seconds then back to the malt blend with mostly coffee flavors.
Medium tongue tingling. Grows to a creamy foam and then a bit beyond to a coarse foam. Ends off feeling a bit oily when the bubbles are quite large.
Surprisingly light flavor overall for a Porter. The chocolate and coffee are much stronger than the base porter flavors, and I would prefer the reverse. This is still an interesting beer to keep on hand.
