Aromas of cinnamon and chocolate. Pours a cloudy dark brown with tan head. Light bitter taste. Medium body with sticky texture and average carbonation. Overall a great Belgian style strong ale.

750 cork-topped growler poured into a St. Bernardus goblet:
A - Dark and cloudy with almost ruby-red tones when held up to light. A tight lacing clings to the top of the glass while fat bubbles form a colony across half of the surface.
S - Big fruit and berries, with some cherry tones, apricot, slight nuttiness, almost an almond/walnut aroma. You can smell the sweetness of the candi sugar along with some spicy breadiness.
T - Strong yeast upfront with some spicy, nutty flavors entering in. Bready, sweet, and smooth, with a subtle tart cherry flavor hiding below. Not as complex as I might have expected. The flavors give way to the alcohol eventually and leave a slightly dry, malty, and pleasant aftertaste.
M - Good carbonation and coating on the tongue with a subtle bitterness and sourness to balance out the brew.
O - A solid beer. Not too robust for the style, so could possibly be dangerously drinkable given its 8.5 ABV. Guess that's why they don't offer it in full growlers? A different cup of brew than the farmhouse, but certainly with similar characteristics. Mellower in flavor, despite the higher alcohol.
UPDATED REVIEW 6/20/2014: This beer has evolved since the initial review, the taste is far more complex with dark molasses and a subtle bitter backing up the brew and the alcohol, while noticeable, is far less pronounced.
