12 oz can

Golden in color. Light malt aroma, a touch of grassy hops. Mild flavor as well so it's an easy drinker. Thin bodied, fizzy. not bad, just a bit bland.

12oz bottle, a single from some random ABC store in Waikiki.

This beer pours a somewhat hazy, bright medium golden yellow hue, with one fat finger of lumpy and foamy white head, which leaves some nice coral reef profile lace around the glass as it slowly ebbs away.

It smells of lightly toasted grainy malt, a bit of cigarette ash, softly meaty fruit, and some earthy, musty, and floral hops. The taste is grainy, mildly fruity malt, and a hoppiness that is kind of split between indistinct tropical notes, and earthy, leafy, and spiced ones. There also still seems to be a subtle undercurrent of burnt, well, burnt something, it's frustratingly difficult to tell.

The bubbles are fairly average, and generally helpful in the refreshment department, the body a so-so middleweight, and a bit too tacky to deem dead smooth. It finishes with that hollow, ethereal, toasted but not toasted, pallid fruitiness.

Well, it's not the beer's fault that I'm having so much trouble breaking it down, picking it apart, that's my cross to bear. However, as for its "Bright, Tropical, Refreshing" claims - it hits all of those marks at least at some point in the experience, but don't do it enough to distract me, or even make me all that compelled to procure another when I am next patio-bound.

Enjoyed while on vacation in Maui...this brewery does not export to North America, so drink it while you are in the Hawaiian Isles!

A- Pours a chill hazed yellowish golden color and with plenty of fine columns of bubbly carbonation rising rapidly to the top. The head is lovely, being a super white, two finger thick layer of foam that eventually settles down to a thick film that covers the brew itself. The lacing isn't so exciting however, as nothing really clings to the side of my glass. With that minor hiccup though, this is still a very nice looking beer!

S- I have to agree with previous reviews in that I detect burnt toast, but I don't feel that this is a dominant aroma. There is some solid malt sweetness, along with some mild tart fruit as well as a mild hop bitterness. It smells along the lines of a wheat beer....

T- The label says it's tropical and I have to agree. It definitely has a nice malt sweetness, with some spicy hints...cloves mainly but there is some other baking spice that I can't quite pinpoint. There is some tropical fruit hints in there as well...banana, some possible pineapple too. The finish is slightly tart and does have some bitterness, but in a very refreshing manner. Again, this reminds me of a wheat beer...

M- The body is medium and full in flavor. The carbonation is fine and doesn't scrub the palate. The finish is very refreshing and crisp....a great balance on the palate!

O- I think this is a very nice beer to enjoy on the beach, as I did on this trip, as well as a good solid ale that is suitable year round. I'd like to see this in Canada someday as I think it's well balanced, flavorful brew that I could enjoy on a regular basis.

Purchased at The Wine Corner in Paia, Maui, Hawaii. I picked this one up because I have never seen it in California.

Pours a hazy golden yellow with a 2 inch foamy white head that settles to a small cap. Small dots of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt/grains and some grassy notes. Taste is exactly the same with a slight bitterness on the palate. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty average beer all around. Nothing too bad but nothing that good.

So-so beer. Nice, light golden colour. Burnt, buttered toast scent and metallic taste. A weird, over-sugared taste that also seems kind of bland, like Wasa crackers.

This tastes overdone, overprocessed, overcarbonated. Even a macro lager would be better than this. Not a winner.
