Purchased at Total Beverage just north of Denver, Colarado.

"Mehana Beer" pours flat and with little fanfare. It sits cloudy and with little carbonation. Color is a nice mid-point between an ale and a hefe.

Good solid lager-like smell with a slightly fruty almost hefe-like aroma. Sold and good taste does not diminish itself throughout the beer, it remains good on the last sip as it was on the first sip.

This is not sold local to me but if it were I'd be happy to pickup a six pack or even a case.

Golden color with a good amount of off-white head.
Aroma of sweet pale malts with some hops underneath. Smell is a bit grainy.

Hops and malts are pretty much in balance. Pale malt sweetness with hops to balance. I'd like to see a bit more of a crisp hop bite than this one has. Fairly clean and smooth.

Respectable body and mouthfeel.
Drinkability is good, but would benefit from a bit bigger hop presence IMO.
Overall, a decent beer. Odd it's just called Mehana Beer. Why the generic name? Colorful label at least.

11/21/04- Given to me by a friend that visited Hawaii-

Appearance- Pours a ideal golden color with a decent 3/4 inch head and leaves adequate lacing.

Smell- Mostly malt with a few hops.

Taste- BLECCCHHHH. Was expecting a decent taste to this one after the pour and smell. Tastes like malt gone bad. Maybe a got a bad bottle, but I think I would be able to smell the funk if it was bad. A real strong medicinal taste. Drank about half the bottle and dumped.

Mouthfeel- Didn't keep this one long in my mouth. The carbonation was fine though.

Drinkability- If I could find this one in Cali, I would try it again because I cant imagine it tastes like this when it is fresh. Hoping at least.

This was a strange beer as at times it tasted like a lager especially when it was chilled but then Belgian tones appeared when the body warmed up. I liked this beer compared to other Hawaiian micro offerings but would like more details of what the brewer was trying to create on the bottle itself. This would be a nice pairing with Ahi or Mahi Mahi.

Oh yeah, the website calls this beer a Kolsch. This really only adds to the confusion as BA lists it as a Pale Ale.

12 oz bottle obtained from Superior Liquor (Colorado) and consumed the next evening. No freshness notch on the label, which is blue with a yellow sun and is simply labeled "Mehana Beer". Pours a half-finger white head over a crystal clear yellowish light rust liquid. Smells very mild. A touch of chalky munich malt and gentle fruity esters and a hint of woody hop. Tastes also very mild. Initial taste is tang from carbonation and a bit of a metallic hoppy flavor. This is overcome by rising fruits (apricot, pear, nectarine, and light peach syrup) and munich malt, both gentle in intensity. I wonder if there is also some Hallertauer hops in there as well. Plus, there is a flat sugary quality, kinda like rock candy. Remember, this is all very subtle. The ending is wet sweet with fruity esters, predominated by peaches (not the fuzz, like canned peach syrup). Md-light body and md-heavy carbonation. Oddly, the carb is remniscent of macro carbonation. Can't explain it, but it's something in the aftertaste or, perhaps, the burps. Well, I've never had an American Blonde, but this appears to fit the bill pretty well. Scores reviewed to style. It's very drinkable and enjoyable. Not a killer complex beer.
