650ml bottle. Are we supposed to know the dude on the label, or is he intended to be the 'starstruck' one?
This beer pours a somewhat hazy, pale copper amber colour, with one flabby finger of puffy, loosely foamy, and weakly bubbly dirty white head, which leaves a bit of disintegrating windshield ice lace around the glass as things gently subside.
It smells of spicy, semi-sweet rye malt, a bit of further sugary caramel, not so subtly phenolic yeast, muddled and generic citrus rind, and more leafy, weedy, and faintly piney hop bitters. The taste is gritty, grainy rye and caramel malt, a still verging on unpleasant and unwelcome yeastiness, some testy pine and leafy hoppiness, muted citrus flesh, and a circling sense of alcohol that obviously wants to be more than just 'friends'.
The carbonation is fairly meek in its overly approachable frothiness, the body a heady medium weight, and sort of smooth, what with the astringent rye 'spiciness' and dead yeast thing weighing down my palate. It finishes off-dry, the inherent hop fruitiness drawing out the sweetness of the muttish malt, and the west coast hop goodness fading into that good night.
While this hardly invokes the concept of being starstruck, especially from a beer vantage point, I guess I have to say that if you like rye (westerns) mixed into your IPA (clever sitcoms and sci-fi), then hey, by all means, wait in line for an autograph, or whatever will sate your starfuckery, as such. Otherwise, I'm out, off to seek out some indie IPA, before it gets big.

A: translucent amber orange
S: grapefruit rind, fresh,
T: starts smooth and creamy but then turns harshly bitter.
M: bitter and drying. Light-medium bodied.
O: not really that appealing by itself but with Huevos Rancheros it was great: like a bracing Sauvignon Blanc with fish it cut right through leaving a clean fresh taste in my mouth. The perfect contrast to a full bodied or fatty meal.

Cool IPA in that it offers a real rye notes to the nose and the finish plus is on the thicker mouthfeel side that many other IPAs. A little higher in ABV than average make this a nice sipping IPA that shows a different route than many of the newer IPAs in BC. Still hoppy but that is not the focal point here. Worth picking up in a growler from the brewery.

Was excited to see a new beer at the bottle store, picked this one up, and drank it right as I got home.
A - Pours completely clear and just a bit darker than gold. This beer is a light colour that seems to be just a shade darker than a traditional IPA, perhaps due to the rye. Thick, creamy, pure-white head
S - A cold is interfering with my senses here, but I am picking up a very sweet, almost toffee, candy-sweet malt on the nose, accompanied by marginal amount of citrus hop character.
T - Shapely and full. The hops come through strongly but don't outpace the malt, which provides strong support. Well-rounded and intensely flavorful, with an aggressive hop bitterness and a subtle spiciness lingering on the aftertaste. Tastes very strong. I expected it to be above 7 ABV.
M - Chewy. Rather full-bodied for an IPA. Not heavy, but with ample mouthfeel, which is amplified by the sweet malty nose and hope bitterness.
O - Unlike other rye IPAs, I think I can actually locate the rye flavor here. Its a strong offering, very nice mouthfeel and well balanced in the flavor. I would definitely like this on tap at a bar, though it does seem to taste a bit boozier than I would like.
