A:
It pours fairly clear brass with a billowing white head that settles but is easily roused. Good retention; even polka dotted lacing. (4.25)
S:
Onion, soap, floral, herbal. (3.75)
T:
Sticky green bitterness, pine, earthy, woodsy. (4.25)
M:
Crisp and dry with active carbonation, oily, snappy finish. (4.25)
O:
A very nice, bitter IIPA.
It looks great right off the bat. The aroma is definitely lacking. It has a little pungency to it but it doesn't really pop and I imagine it is a touch faded. The flavor, however, is excellent. Earthy, crisp bitterness with a clean malt and yeast character for the most part. It is dry and shellac-ey and drinkable and generally bracing and nice. What with the current state of IPAs beers like this are a breath of fresh air. (4.25)
As an aside, what are they smoking out in BC, or am I losing my mind? This beer is described as being hazy and is described as being juicy, tropical and soft-bodied and yet it is very clear, bracing and dry/crisp. The beer I had before this was the exact opposite. People need to make up their minds and stop either calling it an NEIPA for marketing even though it's not or calling it west coast cause they think hazybabies are the devil incarnate. Beer is beer, this one (and the previous one I reviewed) just happen to be beer that is strangely categorized.
