Our hoppiest beer to date is so RECKLESS (see what we did there) that we only brew it twice per year. Once for Sacramento Beer Week and once for the CCBA Summit. It is the most aggressively hoppy beer we make brewed with Simcoe, Citra, Amarillo, and Eureka. We keep the malt very low on this beer to showcase the hop aroma and aggressive hop bitterness and it results in a brilliantly clear, pale IPA. The hop forwardness and lack of an alcohol bite, makes this a dangerous triple IPA...or should we say reckless? Ok, too much.

I thought this beer was delicious. Nice clean crisp taste, nice golden color. and it had a nice floral hoppy aroma. They hid the 10.3% (I think) really well. I will revisit this brewery because of this beer again for sure.

Had on-tap 04/08/16 at Alley Katz in Citrus Heights, CA

Appearance - Served up in a 10oz snifter with a white, finger width head. The brew itself is mostly clear and purely golden in color. Good retention, then dies to a thin, broken layer of suds. The lacing consists of small, broken sheets and a few spots here and there.

Smell - Citrusy aroma with sweetened grapefruit and underlying fresh pine. Also, a touch of cattiness.

Taste - Follows the nose. Mild, candied grapefruit with a touch of pine and some leafy freshness. A touch of biscuity malt. The finish is surprisingly balanced, and touches on leaf and mild pith.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with low carbonation. Quite flat, frankly. Slightly dry finish.

Overall - A IIIPA with great flavor, but literally falls flat in body. A shame. The hop profile is quite reminiscent of all those great hoppy Alpine brews. I'd certainly give this one another shot.

The Reckless Use Of Hops is solid. I'm trying it at the old town pizza in Roseville, CA. The beer poured a clear golden with thin white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent is pine spice. The taste is bitter with grapefruit and pine. The Mouthfeel is fuller in body with smooth carbonation. Overall it's a big beer and worth trying.
