Tasting notes from 08/06/16
Had on-tap at Alley Katz in Citrus Heights, CA
Appearance - Served in a pint with a thin layer of white suds, the brew is hazy and dirty orange in color. Minimal lacing, mostly made of broken lines and some spotting.
Smell - Juicy as hell tropical aroma. Big notes of orange juice, mango, lesser pineapple, and maybe even a bit of guava.
Taste - Follows the nose. Juicy flavor, with orange and lesser mango being the prominent flavors. A bit of green banana that rides with the mango. Hints of spice. Generic malts lie beneath. Finishes with slight spice and light, lingering pith bitterness.
Mouthfeel - On the fuller side of medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. Slick and easy drinking with a semi-dry finish.
Overall - Wow. Easily the best NE-style IPA I've had from a West Coast brewery to date, and dare I say it rivals the likes of Bissell Bros or Hill Farmsteads similar offerings. Mango gets a bit too much for me, but one pint at a time is a hell of a treat.
