The hop. Humulus lupus. We worship this mischievous flower and its elusive oils. Our IPA captures the flavours and aromas of the Cascade, Columbus and Chinook hops. This beer sings ‘All hail the hop!’

Burnished gold with creamy off white head that crags and clings.
Citrus fruit salad nose.
Toffee and a bit of pastry then pineapple, tangerine, beech and peach hops.
Grapefruit granita end and longer powdery orange drink linger.
Light, some stick, creamy.
Cascade, Columbus, Chinook.
Light and bitter - the Hop Wallop/BD Hardcore school of IPAs. Hit of sweet pineapple comes off a bit greasy somehow. All the light flavors add up to to plenty of fruit without using any S Hemisphere hops.
Perfumed and pithy with not enough in between.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Oct 2013. Picked up a little while back from Trembling Madness in York. Bad Seed is a new microbrewery based in Malton (not far from York), and this is their take on an American IPA. Interesting to see some intense beers being produced in a small English market town....
Poured into a Delirium chalice. Bottle conditioned. A very hazy orange-amber hue with fine sediment and plentiful carbonation. Produces a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a while before settling as a frothy surface layer. Some lacing. Aroma of vivid hop notes: grapefruit, orange peel, citrus, white grape, pine resin and mild tropical fruit. Underpinned by earthy yeast, sweet caramel malt and leafy stewed hops. Very nice.
Tastes of powerful aromatic hops with a zealously bitter finish. Notes of grapefruit, orange peel, citrus, pine resin, white grape, mild tropical fruit, faint spice, caramel, earthy yeast and stewed hops. Highly attenuated, followed by a dry, leafy bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with light carbonation on the palate and good body. The hop oils stimulate the tongue. Very astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of intensely bitter aromatic hops, subtle caramel and earthy yeast.
Good stuff - for a young brewery this is a solid effort. Looks OK; a tad cloudy when poured. The aroma and flavour are great, tons of aromatic hops and bitterness. Decent body - a shade more effervescence would have added texture. All in all, a quality brew and a hophead's delight. Well worth sampling if you come across it.
