Very Good
Freeze RayFreeze Ray
Notes: Why do supervillains love Freeze Rays? Easy…to trap their arch-nemesis in a solid block of ice and monologue away for hours, while their foe slowly dies of hypothermia and/or boredom. Sure, freezing things with a laser may sound weirdly impractical, but that is before you knew it could be used on Strangeways’ newest concoction, Freeze Ray Eisbock. After benumbing a thick and malty doppelbock for days, we mined the resulting colossal chunks of ice from the vat to extract the pesky water obstructing the full potential of this deliciously decadent libation. Its thick and creamy mouthfeel is interlaced with a prevalent chocolaty richness that seductively satiates. Nevermind where we hide the 10.24% abv, as the Freeze Ray disintegrates any booziness with a mere controlled pull of the trigger.

Purchased on Father's Day Sunday. In the fridge since then. Poured into a chalice.

An excellent Eisbock in my opinion. If you are looking for a good American made Eisbock try this one!

L - A clear amber on the pour, but opaque in the glass with a minimal beige head. 4.25
S - Malty, slightly sweet, good spiciness/phenols 4.25
T - Malty, caramel, brown bread, molasses & honey. The high ABV does nicely balances the malt, et. al. without tasting hot or solventy. 4.5
F - Medium heavy body with a slightly dry lingering finish. 4.25

On tap at Sergio's Pizza Pub in Midlothian, VA.

The newest offering from Neil over at Strangeways. Murky brown coloring. Very light on the palate for an Eisbock. Flavor is nice, dry fruits, some malty sweetness, the alcohol comes through somewhat but for 10%+ this beer goes down remarkably easy. Overall, not a bad offering from Strangeways, this beer is not overly impressive, but well done and definitely worth a try.

Draft. Poured into a pint glass. I don't have a lot of experience with Eisbocks. This is my first I believe. The description made me try it. Poured a slightly cloudy amber red with a little amount of beige or tan head. Smell is malts, sugar and spices I cannot identify. Light. Not overpowering. Taste is caramel sugars, malty yeast like wheat bread followed by more sugar - syrup or molasses maybe. Could be honey. Light - not overly sweet by any means. At first you don't notice the ABV but then it surfaces halfway through a pint. It helps balance the beer actually. A little too well. Hidden at first but apparent at the end. Not hot. Mouth feel is thicker than it looked but not heavy. Does have a slight oak barrel dryness on the finish. Liked it. Just didn't love it but it was my first Eisbock. Very good effort.
