Hoards of helpless pumpkins were viciously plucked from the vine, carted through the dark hollows, and brutally slaughtered on the crisp, cool All Hallows’ Eve of 2014. Their corpses forcefully turned inside out with a cleaver, to expose their juicy, tender flesh. The results of the aftermath then laid bare, atop hellish flames rising from the underworld, as their meat was meticulously charred to unveil their tantalizing flavors. All in preparation to meet their final maker and liquid tormentor. An experiment in mixed strain fermentation, the precious wort was first soured with lactobacillus, and then progressed to primary fermentation with the addition of a savage Belgian yeast. The resulting concoction was then laid to rest for nearly a year, oak barrel aged with a blend of roasted pumpkins, spices, and a third yeast addition of Brettanomyces from 3 Fonteinen. Resign yourself and accept your fate to (try) Rot•In•Hell.

Bottle of the 2016 pours a slightly opaque deep copper color with little to no head. The nose offers up light acidity and spices, namely cinnamon. Mild tart to taste with cinnamon and some faint pumpkin. I would have liked for it to be slightly more carbonated than it was. Overall this is a successful beer, but I would like more carb, tartness and pumpkin.

Pours deep black with thin khaki head. Aroma of roasted malt, slight chocolate, "rotten" pumpkin, lactic sourness and slight funk. FLavor is tart green apple, pumpkin flesh (which add a very slight plesant sweet/earthiness), slight roasted/chocolate and an almost cider-like character on the finish.. The feel is much lighter than it looks, opaque black motor oil but with the carbonation and feel of sparkling wine. Somewhat but not overly complex to let the pumpkin shine. I do not like pumpkin beers, but this one changed my mind completely. I now like pumpkin sours.

This is quite unique and delicious. All the spice of pumpkin pie along with what actually tastes like some squash flesh melded onto a pleasantly tart sour that gives the impression of a sour cider. Pretty light and a nice twist to swap sweet for sour.
