I’ve seen Bay State’s beers around many places, but I’ve never actually tried anything from them. This one caught my eye. A coffee IPA, some I’ve only had once before (Two Roads’ Thirteen Months Of Sun) and I absolutely loved it. If this comes anywhere close to that I will be very happy. Let’s get into it
Pours a clear orange gold with 3 fingers of off white head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves nice lacing
Upon the first whiff, I’m thinking a NEIPA base works better with coffee than this WCIPA, but it’s still pretty good. I’m picking up on aromas of pithy grapefruit, caramel malt, light roast coffee, light black pepper, and bread crust
Well, my initial train of thought was right. It blends decently well in taste, but it’s not masterful. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting pale malt, lemon rind, grassy hops, and very light coffee. The swallow brings notes of drip coffee, dark toast, caramel, black pepper, grassy hops, and light lemon zest
A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a super crisp beer. Finishes dry with a nice amount of coffee
It’s a bit bland up front, but I still really enjoyed this. More breweries need to try this
