On-tap at Cask Republic into a snifter. Apparently this amped-up version of OEO is the base beer for the Ola Dubh series.
A: Black body with a thick inch of creamy light-brown head. Fantastic retention and solid sheets of lace. Stunning.
S: Whoa, super smoky. Totally, 100% different from the regular version of this beer. Nothing much beyond the rich, strong, peaty smoke. One-dimensional, but enjoyable.
T: Much more complex than the nose, with caramel, molasses, peat smoke, and roast on the back end. Delicious.
M: Rich, full, and frothy. The carbonation settles out midway through each sip, though, leaving a smooth, sticky coating of deliciousness.
D: The higher alcohol doesn't take away from drinkability, but the sticky sweetness does a little bit. Not bad at all, though.
Notes: Cheers to Cask Republic for providing the opportunity to sample a new and exciting import. The extra strength and body make this one earn fit its name far more effectively than the standard version. Good stuff.
Cheers!
