There may have been something wrong with this beer. Picked it up at a Whole Foods, bottle number 1017. Served it in a chalice glass. Right away something was wrong. Absolutely zero head on a tar black beer. The smell was off. Took a minute to figure out, but it was "earthy", "sharp" and "tart" smelling. Very much like a wild fermentation. The taste was completely wrong. There are some stout flavors, the expected roast and coffee. There's also a funky tart flavor under it. The feel is all wrong. It was dry and acidic. I think the batch may have been infected. Mobcraft may not be very careful with their sour and farmhouse beers. Letting something this bad out of the brewery is terrible. I emailed them my complaints.
EDIT: heard back from Mobcraft and indeed the bottles were going bad.
EDIT 2: filled out a customer complaint form that offered a replacement bottle. That was two weeks ago and nothing. No replacement.
EDIT 3: Heard from Mobcraft last night, they brought by a replacement for the bad stout and we talked about the problems they've had. They really are making strides to improve the beers including new filters and a 3rd party quality control lab.
