This was the second of two beers from this brewery I have had. Bomber bought at Woodman’s who is also the collaborator on this beer. I thought a barrel aged stout was a nice way to cap off the evening. My bottle was numbered 1519.

Poured into a pint the beer is black with a bit of a tan head that dissipated quickly.

The aroma is of roasted malts, dark fruit, coco and something sour.

The taste is also a bit sour, not sure if it is intentional or not. The raspberries jump out as does the chili peppers. There is an underlying taste of darkly roasted malts, raisins and some dark chocolate notes. Maybe this one needed some more age on it as the flavors don’t really seem to meld. The beer is 8.5% and there is no evidence of any alcohol heat so kudos there.

The mouth is right in the wheel house for the style.

I may actually pick up another bottle and let it age. I will revisit my review if that improves the scores. However the sourness worries me that it may be an infection.

Poured highly viscous and jet black in color. Very dark head with pouring but dissipated instantly. Tiny sediments were dispersed around the glass - maybe remnant of crushed pepper? The aromas were not that great. Some raspberries at the nose. Little bourbon and some subtle peppers. Nothing exciting. The flavors are a little weird. Instantly tart and candy-like from the raspberries. It doesn't mix well with the stout. Kind of tasted like some tart juice just poured into the beer and it overshadows the stout. The peppers are nice, it's subtle with a little heat at the finish. I wouldn't have guess this sat in bourbon barrels. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and a little slick. Overall I don't care for this beer. The raspberries ruin everything, would have a lot more potential if they omit it. I do give them credit for creativity and that I hope they continue doing.
