A barrel aged flavored Imperial Milk Stout with vanilla, cacao nibs, and roasted hazelnuts. Pronounced barrel aromas combine for a rich, slightly sweet chocolate finish.

I was happy to hsve participated in the crowdfunding aspect of having a beer brewed (kinda.,.) just for me. Came as a box of 4 bombers. Popped one right away, it was hot. 3 months later, #2 was alright. Bottle 3 at 6 months showed promise. And bottle 4 was popped at 1 year. It was fully realized and delucious. So my rating is for the one-year aged jug.,.

I had a recent interaction with one of the Mobcraft guys on Untappd - he apologized for some of the deficiencies of their older beers and invited me to check out their facilities for some free beer. I was surprised. Mobcraft wasn't a brewery that stood out to me as having let me down in the past. I guess my experience with their beer wasn't very deep.
I picked up Aunt Hazel prior to that interaction, and wondered how this beer would hold up, given their apology. My expectations were low, and the "flavored" aspect to the name made me nervous. Was it going to taste incredibly artificial, like Horny Goat's Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter?
One way to find out.
Aunt Hazel pours a deep brown with a light beige head. It doesn't appear to be heavily carbonated. That's good with me. The beer has a distinctly hazelnut nose to it - this makes me quite hopeful. It doesn't strike me as smelling artificial... but what do I know?
My initial taste of the beer is a bit startling. Aunt Hazel is quite nutty, without that saltiness that really put me off of Avery's Nutty Professor. It's smooth and tastes quite good, but now I do wonder whether it's entirely natural - it does have a slight artificial tang to it. The barrel is present, and the beer does have a bit of heat to it (in your chest - not in the taste).
I like this stuff. I think Mobcraft must have pulled it together because they did a pretty decent job with Aunt Hazel. Well done.

Pours a murky ebony with minimal tan head. Tons of viscosity, weird floaties as well, kind of ugly...
S: Hazel nuts, vanilla, not much else
T: Dryness, vanilla, a touch of woodyness up front, a little charred grain. Dryness, bigtime woodyness, lactose & mocha as this warms. Finishes very sweet with vanilla, dryness, a little hazelnut with a little coffee
MF: Fairly chewy, medium carbonation, boozey warmth
Alright, not one to get too excited about, Did not dig the Barrel Aged Flavor descriptor, thought this was actually barrel-aged
