Caplans Barrel Aged Vanilla Stout

This was deceptive, because off of the look and smell, I expected a very good, but nothing expeditious, vanilla stout. The taste was so much more, with a thick fudge note that went beautifully with the vanilla detected in the nose. The hot bourbon added a savory yet slightly sweet underlying element to the flavoring. Rich, fun and big beer

Motor oil black with a thin brown edge and no head.

Smell is that unmistakable combination of gooey chocolate and vanilla that just screams brownie batter and never looks back.

Taste is waxy oak in concert with a peppery bourbon heat that thankfully leaves room for roasted nuts, chocolate, vanilla, raisin, toffee and hints of maple and cola with a slick, smooth but thin body and dry finish.

Thanks Joe! It's not often a homebrew knocks it out of the park so far that it shifts a number of world class BA stouts down a peg or two on my own personal list.
