this is excellent ipa, a red ipa to be specific, a style we dont see much anymore after its moment in the sun a bunch of years ago. i was stoked to see this, and intrigued by the use of sequoia hops, which are new to me, had to google to learn its a blend, still neat, and it shows out in this beer, really cool recipe. quite clear proper red color to this, a nice churned up inch of white head, really looks polished and tidy. the nose is lovely, high alpha right away to me, some definite woodsy pine character, bitter grapefruit, wood pulp, tangerine, mowed lawn, and a nice baked biscuity backing from the malt, less sweet than anticipated in this style, and with a clean ferment. the flavor is super fresh to me, bold though, striking on the first sip from hop punch, with nice bitterness the whole way, nice to see a modern ipa get away from just dry hopping and leaning into the bitter side, this is almost crisp from that despite all the grain in the mix too. toasted and nutty but dry for its color, soft feeling and only medium bodied, great job getting texture and flavor out of this without it making the beer heavy to drink. there is a real brightness to the whole thing, clean intense citrus running through it with the more obvious botanical and pine flavors, seems like a pretty cool hop product in this, nothing green at all, nice finishing bite, clean ferment, and rather high drinkability if you like an intensely flavored ipa, which i most certainly do. easily the best beer ive ever had from mobcraft, albeit i have not had that many. really good, love the malt balance and the overall cleanness this hits with, poppy and fresh and expertly done.
