This recipe has been beefed up over time. The original 8% beer is a thing of the past. I reviewed the 9.5% version as a 3.5 back in 2019, but this is the new 10% out of a can. Cheers!

DDH TIPA
APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, medium-thicker looking, creamy white head with great retention. Head slowly recedes to a full wisp and clings to the glass. Cloudy amber yellow in color with no real carbonation evident. Half wisp remains leaving good lacing on the glass as it empties. Lovely bright color and great head on this one. Can’t imagine it looking any better for the style.
SMELL: Caramel notes, bubble gum, lots of tropical aromas like pineapple and passion fruit, as well as some spicy alcohol as well. Bold enough.
TASTE: Caramel and sweet melon flavors up front, as well as some tropical fruit flavors and some spicy alcohol at the swallow. Bold finish is lightly bitter with sweet melon, tropical pineapple and passion fruit, tangerine flavors and some alcohol lingers on the palate.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy on the palate, weighty enough, goes down smooth with a bit of a scratch and finishes slightly mouth-coating. A bit of spicy heat lingers.
OVERALL: This is a bruiser of an IPA. It’s big, boozy, and definitely flavorful. Far superior than the other version in the past. While it still borders on a hoppy barleywine, the sweet character meshes with the tropical flavors and spicy alcohol quite well. I don’t think this style needs to be this strong, but it’s certainly well-made and enjoyable. Worth seconds and definitely one to get if you’re a fan of the brewery. I'll have more for sure. Cheers!
